I am always delighted to get photos, but never really sure what to do with them once I've opened the envelope and oooohed and aawwwed a little. The obvious thing is the fridge and some cute magnets, but I really like the look of my fridge without photos. My solution to date has been to stack the photos in a cupboard, and pull them out as necessary depending on who is coming to visit. But I had a brainstorm the other week, and now I can ease my conscience and display the photos without having to put up with the aesthetics only approved of by doting parents.
This is a photo of the inside of my cupboard. I have turned the inside panel of the door into a magnetic board where I can "display" my latest treasures, and when I close the door, I have my uncluttered kitchen back. I did two doors this way and it cost me $15.00, with enough metal duct tape left over to seal many exposed duct joints in the basement for a little heating bill savings.
For each door you need one flat full sheet of sheet metal and some metal tape. The metal sheets are about $5.00, and the tape is about $5.00 for a small roll. Measure the size of the metal you need, cut the metal with ordinary large scissors (it's very thin metal) making sure to leave a little cupboard door exposed to attach the tape to. Then just tape the metal in place (expose a short end of the tape and gradually apply and peel off the backing in situ because the tape is quite sticky and doesn't come off easily). Then all that's left is to gather up the photos and put up your display.
I'm thinking that I'll add our events calendar to the door so that we don't miss the next lecture we want to attend - or club scene. ;)
